About This Website
My name is Kristen Bower. I am a graphic designer who happens to be a really passionate gardener, too. I have been gardening for about 20 years. Over the last few years I have became increasingly more aware of the creatures that share my garden with me. I came to the realization that my garden isn’t just for me; it’s for these creatures, too, especially the pollinators. I have made changes to increase food and nesting sites for pollinators and can now say that my garden is an official Monarch Waystation as well as a Pollinator Habitat.
One of the books that educated me on pollinators is “The Xerces Society Guide: Attracting Native Pollinators – Protecting North America’s Bees and Butterflies.” I was reading this book at the same time that I was working on a web design certificate. For one of my last projects, we had to create a responsive website for our topic of choice (responsive means that the design conforms to size of the browser window or device). I chose to call my website project Save The Pollinators, and so this website was born. Most of the information on this site comes from “Attracting Native Pollinators”, which I highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about pollinators.
I see this website as being an introduction – an introduction to pollinators, their importance, and learning about what you as an average individual can do to help. I hope that it is the first step on your journey to educating yourself and sharing what you learn with others. Please use the links to organizations and references that are found on this site to learn more.
Thank you for visiting Save The Pollinators!
